Another book recommendation:Fallout: Hedley Marston and the Atomic Bomb Tests in Australia

I have only read the preview available on Google Books but I was struck by the authors description of 1950's Adelaide.

He mentions Adelaideans innate snobbery and class consciousness inherited from the original "free settlers" during the Thomas Playford period.

I think his comments actually still ring true today.

I have read elsewhere that some parts of Adelaide were actually irradiated accidentally when a weather forecast predicting that the mushroom cloud would move towards the east coast exiting Australia over un-populated land between Brisbane and Sydney. But instead the cloud drifted straight over Adelaide. The true details of this story appear to still be a secret even after 50 years.
